Leaving China for us, has always been a time of mixed emotions. Clearing out the freezer was tough as many of our friends had already left. Thankfully Nate came hungry for the last meal in our apartment.
While enjoying ourselves this time, teaching was more of a juh juh juh job and less of a vocation. As we are retired, a juh juh juh job is not and should not be part of our vocabulary. A juh juh juh job is for other people, like our children so that they can keep the pension plans healthy and fully stocked.
It was an early departure for us. Doctor J picked us up at 5:00 am on January 3rd and delivered us safely to the airport where we departed for Vancouver, via Shanghai at 7:00 am. Sixteen hours later found us in Vancouver at 8:00 am on January 3rd for and elapsed flight time of one hour. Living in the future has its perks but doesn't do a damn thing for jet lag.
With only one day in Vancouver, we had a lunch with an Aunt and spent a morning exploring Granville Island with our youngest son before we had to catch another flight to Orlando, Florida, home of the happiest place on earth.
We had rented a house to spend a week with our grandchildren which definitely made it the happiest place on earth for us. That and the princess room.
The house was only a 15 minute drive from the other happiest place on the earth, Disney World.
With over 50 million visitors coming each year, it seemed like the perfect place to spend a week after living on and off in China for the last six years.
The crowds certainly wouldn't scare us. We have seen larger crowds on Seniors day at the Wal-Mart in Harbin.
We had the opportunity to visit Walt Disney World in 1988 on our way to the island of St. Lucia in the Caribbean . Then, there were only two theme parks,
The Magic Kingdom and EPCOT (Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow.
Today there are two more theme parks. Disney Hollywood Studios and .......
Disney's Animal Kingdom). Along with the four theme parks, there are two water parks along with Disney's Boardwalk and Downtown Disney.
All ways to separate you and your wallet.
So join us over the next few blogs as we explore WDW.
