Vancouvers Islands Wild Side

There exists a saying that says “A picture is worth a thousand words”. The saying is basically true but only if ones photographic skills are up to the task. I have been taking photographs for over 60 years. You would think based on that length of time my photographic prowess must be worth at least a thousand words but sadly it is far from the truth. Despite numerous and sometimes expensive cameras purchased and used over the years, I have been unable to find my photographic muse.

When I went to digital from film, It was my hope that this new technology would allow me to show my stuff. The cost to develop a roll of film was expensive so I was always limited to one or two attempts to capture that moment. But with digital there are no limits to the number of shots. I am only limited by the size of the SD card, my wife’s patience or the fact that she cannot stop blinking no matter how may shots I take.

Sadly, my hopes were misplaced and I have come to grips with the fact that my photographic sense sucks. Despite that, please enjoy a selection of my least sucky photos were taken on our Christmas sojourn to Ucleulet and the wild Pacific coast of Vancouver Island.

Our track record for Christmas vacations has been a poor one and includes blizzards, a pea soup fog spoiled honeymoon, numerous scary and missed flights and a head on collision on the way to Big White with the whole family.  Just about all of our problems have been caused by nasty weather.

But on this trip we were hoping for nasty weather.  With storms comes wind, with wind comes some pretty stunning waves and that is what we were after. The day we arrived was pretty stormy but the next day was sunny with a strong wind. The waves were spectacular. Perfect storm watching. So ends my thousand words, please enjoy the photos.
